The Ministry of Shipping (MoS) is set to engage the Bangladesh Navy in freeing four rivers flowing around the Dhaka city from illegal occupation and making those pollution-free.
The Bangladesh Navy at a meeting on Sunday submitted a strategy paper to the ministry in this regard and made a proposal to work on short, medium and long term basis.
It also proposed forming a taskforce comprising all concerned for implementing the projects related to freeing the Buriganga, Shitalakhya, Balu and Turag rivers from pollution, ensuring water flow and navigability of these rivers and establishing circular waterways around the Dhaka city.
